Connected Health Conference 2018

10/22/2018

On October 18-19, 2018, mActive team members Rose Shan and Seth Martin attended the Connected Health Conference in Boston, MA. This conference of 3,000 attendees brought together leaders in digital health from academia, health administration, and industry. Under the theme of “balancing the technology with the human element,” the conference was filled with thought-provoking discussion on topics including how AI can enhance interpersonal interactions, how technology can be used as a tool to connect patients with appropriate care at the right time, and how telemedicine can expand access to care and potentially improve outcomes. We also had the opportunity to interface with wearable companies like Fitbit, which we use for many of our mActive studies.

Dr. Martin spoke on a panel discussing applications for predictive analytics and machine learning, moderated by our colleague Paul Nagy from the Johns Hopkins Technology Innovation Center. One exciting idea that came up was the potential for predictive analytics to both allow personalized medicine for an individual, but also, through the vast amount of data processed, generate insights that can improve population health.
