The mActive Team is a multidisciplinary research group, interested in the use of mobile health (mHealth) for the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
We have used wearable activity trackers to obtain real time step counts from our participants and developed an automated text message system to send personalized motivational messages. Our objective has consistently been to increase the time our participants spend being active each day and promoting changes in behavior that will result in the overall improvement of cardiovascular fitness.
Our team consists of Johns Hopkins cardiologists, behavioral science specialists, and technology leaders working together to develop and deliver novel interventions to improve clinical care.
Previous funding from the Aetna Foundation has strengthened and sustained the mActive program for cardiovascular disease prevention at the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease.
The mActive program is a prominent example of the forward-thinking work that is possible when two great organizations like Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Aetna Foundation partner together.
